Friendswood TX Real Estate, Friendswood Area and Community Information

Located in Southeastern Texas just minutes from Houston and Galveston, you will find the city of Friendswood. Friendswood is part of both Harris and Galveston Counties and is situated within the Houston/Sugar Land/Woodlands Metro Area. In 2007, CNN named this attractive community as one of the top 100 places to live in the United States.

History of Friendswood

Friendswood was founded in 1895 by two Quakers named Frank Brown and Thomas Lewis who purchased over 1,500 acres of land from the J.C. League Bank. Their vision was to create a religious community where residents could live peacefully. Until about 1920, Friendswood was occupied mainly by Quakers.

However, a variety of other people were attracted to the small community when oil was discovered on the land in the early 1930s. Several wealthy businesses and professional individuals began buying properties in the area. Today, Friendswood maintains its charm but offers a delightful array of shopping and employment opportunities as well.
